Disc jockeys

Disc jockeys, commonly referred to as “DJs”, have a long, storied history. Originally, the “disc” referred to vinyl phonographs, and the “jockeys” were the people in charge of the record players. While there are still plenty of traditional DJs, today the term is often applied to anyone that plays pre-recorded music, including CDs and mp3s.

Disc jockeys have been around since the introduction of the radio. In the early days, the DJ had a great deal of influence within the music industry, as they were the gateway to getting a recording on the air. This gave them the power to make or break the career of a new artist and as such they were often paid by record companies to ensure adequate airtime.

Of course, disc jockeys are limited to the radio. They are often hired as the entertainment for celebrations such as weddings or holiday parties. A quality DJ will be able to provide music for nearly any occasion.
