DJs

Traditionally, DJs have been the engine of radio broadcasting. They are the disembodied voice we've all come to love on our favorite radio programs. However, in recent decades the term has come to refer to hip-hop and electronica turntable artists as well.

Hip-hop became a very popular form of music during the early 1980's, and DJs were an essential part of the genre. They were essentially the "band", using other artist's records and a technique known as "scratching" to create something new and unique. The "MC" would then rap over the top of the groove created by the DJ.

Today, DJs don't necessarily need to know their way around a turntable. Many make their living by playing weddings and other such events, although the majority of rarely use turntables. Instead, they simply press play on their computer's music player.
